An eye-opening experience

Indeed, that would be one of the most apt phrases to describe the happenings of today, the details of which I shall not disclose to you, my dear readers, for it truly is too crude to be written here.

As any ordinary day (with no school), I awoke in bed at a rather unearthly hour of 12.30pm (Ahem, I slept really late). And after performing my morning, or rather afternoon, ablutions, I left for school. I’d planned to meet Muffin at the School of Computing to study for our final exams, and I was most certainly late. After indulging in the most delicious yong tau foo from the Arts canteen, I dashed off to COM1 to find Muffin, who was seated at a bench outside the Computing Club Room. Naturally, many of her computing friends were around, and I was feeling a bit awkward cos well, I’m not from computing. I’m a Life Science student! But they were all friendly. I remember as we were studying, one of her friends, Chris, came and sat down on the bench with us and started talking to her. Soon, I began to join in the conversation as well. And oh my heavens. The things that we conversed about!! Yep, that’s the waaay-too-crude part. It blows my mind. The fact that we were able to converse like that, having just been acquainted to each other for a mere couple of minutes.

The next astonishing thing that happened in the day was during dinner time. At about 7pm or so, Muffin and I left for dinner with 3 of her friends, Steve, Chris and Gareth. We hadn’t yet decided on a place to eat and were talking as we walked to the carpark. Yes, carpark. Gareth was gonna drive us to our destination for dinner. It was mind-boggling, because eventually we decided to have dinner at Science canteen. So yes, we drove (or rather Gareth drove) from Computing to Science.

Apparently, this is a normal and rather common occurrence for Muffin and friends. But it is mind-boggling to me. Because none of my friends drive. So I’ve never travelled within the campus in car before. Yes I have travelled INTO the campus and OUT of the campus in cars before, but not WITHIN. Besides, there’s the NUS shuttle buses, which admittedly isn’t exactly very frequent now that it’s the Reading Week (or is it still?). But still, wow. Like wow. It was a novel experience. Call me childish or whatever if you will, but it is rather cool to drive around in campus! And definitely less time-consuming as compared to waiting for the buses.
